Southwestern Home Plans

For a list of trusted home plan firms specializing in Southwestern home designs, please visit the Southwestern Home Plans Directory.

Southwestern homes are truly unique, and are a characteristic of the climate that they are commonly found in. These homes are generally one level tall, and have a common trait of using a stone exterior for a unique appeal. A definite target for any home owner looking to stand out in the neighborhood! Common traits of southwestern style homes are flat roofs, covered porches and vigas (round log ceiling beams). The term "adobe" is a common term used in southwestern design, as an adobe is a Mexican home made of clay bricks.

We are working on adding new southwestern home plan firms to our list. If you know any good sites, please email us, and we will add them to this page.

You can also check out our southern house plan page for firms carrying similar plans of this nature. You also can find southwestern home plan books in our library

Southwestern design tips

We are currently looking for any design tips or experiences with selection/construction of southwestern floorplans. Have you built a southwestern home using a floorplan? What did you learn? What would you do again? What would you do differently? Was it big enough, under budget, etc. Helps us make this a great resource for others. All contributors receive a limited edition HomePlanInfo T-shirt.
