There is a common confusion between Modular and Manufactured Homes. A Modular Home is not a style of home, but rather a construction method, whereby the house is built in a factory and assembled on site and is required to meet the local building codes as in indistinguishable from a regular site built home.

A Manufactured Home is a very different animal and although built in a factory, is built to a Federal HUD code (and not to local building codes) and is built on a non-removable Steel chassis. There are often restrictions on where a HUD home may be placed. An excellent resource to find more about the differences is www.ModularCenter.com although they have a bias towards Modular Homes.
