Garage Building Plans

For a list of trusted home plan firms specializing in Garage designs, please visit the Contemporary Plans Directory.

Personally, nothing frustrates me more than having 2 cars and a 2 car garage but still having to park outside all winter because my garage cannot fit my van and all the stuff that needs to be in the garage!

The next house I build will have an extra wide 3 car garage, or be detached with my own personal space upstairs.

A great book of luxury garages including some famous garages (eg: Steve Jobs from Apple) is Garage: Reinventing the Place We Park. I recommend Carriage Barns as a great resource for a new garage, guest house, small home, backyard office, stable, studio or workshop. Another popular plan book that comes highly recommended is Martha's Vineyard Plan Book.

Tips from our readers

Many hands make for short work, inviting your friend over to help can be an asset to your project.

As I like working on vehicles and other large projects I would suggest a open rafter design for the greater ceiling height. Standard const. stud 8 feet anything longer you pay per board foot.

As well the open rafter allows a person to place in skylights for very nice natural lighting, as painting never looks the same under incandescing lighting conditions.

Using plywood as a surround along the inside perimeter of the garage instead of gyprock to prevent holes in the wall.

These are just a few suggestions to help your readers, I hope you find them helpful
